back on the net and back in brighton

i’ve moved yet again, this time back to brighton (and hopefully i will be down here for a long time to come). after weeks without the net and meeting up with old and new friends i have loads of drunken shots of all these wonderful people which will be going up on here and flickr as soon as i’ve processed all the shots.

things really couldn’t be better right now, starting my own company and surrounded by great friends.

here’s a shot of a crazy lookin Merman at the Booth museum. looks to me like years of solitary in his glass prison took its toll..

not much photography has happened recently, I have been working on moving down to Brighton which is now all sorted, september could be a month without an internet connection..

I have updated my new website a few times, i’ve tried several different styles of galleries and just cant decide on one to stick with. i’ll probably upload a few more shots of my last trip to brighton sometime soon.. they are looking pretty similar to the last batch tho.

in other news, new adobe lightroom 2 is out and about on the interwebz. worth checking out the new features, if any of you were using the beta 2 there are a bunch of changes that make it well worth trialing.

i went to cheltenham a few weeks back, whilst there i wandered up to leckhampton hill. This is one of the views of cheltenham from the highest spot on the hill. i was surprised how well the images aligned for this hdr because it was ridiculously windy up there, i had to push down on the tripod to stop it from swaying around. there’s a few others from this walk that i’ll put up later on.

oh yea i did it in BnW too.

new domain

i just got a new domain, its for more of an online gallery/portfolio than what i have currently. its very much under construction so dont expect too much yet – http://tom-photography.co.uk/

still a long way to go but i have made a very rough gallery for my cousins wedding from a few weeks ago which you can find here <- click there ;)

its all a bit of a learning curve for me, so be patient.

and in other news.. i’m moving back down to Brighton in the very near future. Opening up a new branch for Legra Guitars in the form of a repair/setup shop and electronics development centre. We will be developing some fancy electronics to make all sorts of desirable, yet weird and wonderful, sounds. watch this space or this one.

taichung ten

boredom set in this afternoon so i went back through the taiwan archives and pulled out ten shots to give a minor treatment. most of the processing was based around an ilford film look.

i also played with a little tip i saw from photoshop user tv which involves using the outer edge of the existing shot to produce the vignetting, rather than the plain old edge darkness. Its pretty subtle but looks kinda cool. onto the photos..

browser colour management

•July 9, 2008 • Leave a Comment

just a heads up for those that use firefox3 and browse a lot of photos on t’interwebz. up until recently safari was the only browser that showed images in their true colour profile, like adobergb, srgb etc. with so many image editing programs defaulting to something other than srgb meant that their images may appear flat, lacking colour or contrast when viewed in other browsers. this appeared to be a linear squash to fit everything into the srgb profile.

now firefox 3 is out and about things have changed, it can now support images in different colour profiles which is a god send for those of us that browse places like flickr on a regular basis. all you have to do is go to about:config, search for gfx or color_management, double clicking the line will toggle the value from false to true and then restart firefox.

i have heard of people saying that this slows down firefox, upto 20%!?!? all i can say is i havent noticed any slow down, let alone a ridiculous statement of 20% slower :/ if your machine slows down this much then there is something else seriously wrong.
